Being some more British and American in our afternoon routine

Being some more British and American in our afternoon routine
The new club on the culture of English-speaking countries “English Your Mind” has come together in their last meeting, on 20th March 2014, to experience the American and British cuisine in a cooking experiment.
Therefore the students searched the internet for interesting recipes the other day; those were then presented in class. In an election it was decided that we would be baking an American Cranberry-Pear-Pie and some British Pancakes. So we met on Thursday and divided ourselves into two groups – some were making the pie; the others made the batter for the pancakes and fried them afterwards. The pie was a bit harder to make so that in the end everyone was included in preparing it. To get a glimpse on British afternoon culture, ‘cuppas’ (black tea with milk and sugar) were provided that most of the students found to be quite delicious. We ate the pancakes traditionally with caster sugar and lemon juice and decorated the warm Cranberry-Pear-Pie with some custard. Even though many students had doubts on British cuisine being any good, they were somewhat surprised how nice the combination of pancakes caster sugar and lemon was. But the master piece of the day was the Cranberry-Pear-Pie with custard – probably because everybody had been working on it.
This was a very special class for everyone; since it was the first time for this very young club to get practical on working as we had been doing theoretical things during the lessons only until now. However it was a highlight for this club, taking place every Thursday during the 7th and 8th lesson, so far and the students do look forward to more practical activities.
